石造りの蔵の外観が小樽らしさを見せる「Hands on Toy’s キンダーリープ」。
小樽の観光名所「小樽オルゴール堂」の三軒隣、「メルヘン交差点」の坂を少し上がった所にあるので、北海道旅行で来て地理が不慣れな方もすぐわかると思います。

ここは雑貨というより、おもちゃがメインのお店で、ヨーロッパからの輸入玩具を中心に取り扱っています。「ハンズ オン トイ」とは「おもちゃを手にとって遊びながら選んで欲しい」との願いを込めて付けられた店名です。
店内は梁の見える吹き抜けになっていて、天井や床、陳列棚全てが木で造られている温かみのある空間になっています。冬には薪ストーブが店内を暖めて、よりいっそうホッと出来る空間になります。2階に上がる階段の端には割られた薪が積まれており、まるで北欧の友人宅に遊びに来たような、やさしい雰囲気に包まれています。

ここには電子で動くたぐいのおもちゃはありません。欧米から輸入されたボードゲームやカードゲーム、積み木やパズルといった高品質な木のおもちゃや、蜜蝋で出来たクレヨン、など五感を使って遊べるアナログのおもちゃばかりです。シュタイナー教育で使う教材など、日本では見られない珍しいものもたくさんあるので、見ているだけでも楽しめます。

入口そばにはドイツのシャボン玉メーカーPUSTEFIX社のシャボン液が売られており「量り売りします」の文字が。容器を持参すると、100ml100円での、量り売りをしてくれるそうです。ゴミを生みださない販売方法は、リサイクル意識の高いドイツならではですね。
遊び方が分からないおもちゃは、店員さんに聞くと遊び方を熱心に教えていただけます。
スタッフさん達は、おもちゃが子どもの情緒育成にどう関わってくるか、その大切さを知っておられるからこその熱い想いで、ついつい熱弁になってしまうそうです。

2Ｆは、子ども達が絵本を読んだり遊んだり出来るプレイスペースと、「レーゲンボーゲン」というカフェになっています。プレイスペースは子供１名につき１時間300円で遊べます。15分刻みで延長でき、しかも最初の30分は無料、付き添いの保護者は１名無料という嬉しい仕組み。さらにカフェを利用すると200円割引になるそうです。カフェからは遊ぶ子ども達の姿が見えるので安心です。小さなお子さんのママさんのために授乳室もありますよ。
おもちゃに実際に目で見て、触れて、選べる貴重なお店です。
