アーティストの寺岡さんは、小樽の海や山、きれいな水、まっすぐ落ちてくる雨の美しさを形にしたいと、この地で30年以上制作を続けています。
北海道で織物の伝統を形作るため、北海道の羊毛にこだわりを持ち、原毛の汚れを除くところから手間をかけ、ホームスパン（羊毛を染め、手紡ぎで糸を作り織り上げてできた生地）を仕上げています。
『食べることや服を着ることなど、「暮らす」ことが生きることだとしたら、そこをおろそかにすることは、人生をおろそかに過ごすことにつながるのではないか』と語る寺岡さんの言葉の意味は、アトリエKazuの中にあります。糸や布を染める、紡ぐ、織る、編む、縫う。機械化にともない大量生産に重きを置かれた現代で、こんなにも手をかけ作られている作品。ただ簡単に使うだけの自分に、恥ずかしさを感じずにはいられません。
